So, I say thank you.

Do you write "your welcome" or "you're welcome"?

The former, I slap you.

The same teacher once put up notices asking pupils to find him in 'the Dinning Room'...

My sister got an lj recently. She used the word "solemn" in it. Except she spelled it "solomn."

Don't worry, her face got to meet the back of my hand after that one.

It's been awhile
Today my science teacher said, " ... so we're going to emulate that .. whatever that means."

I dropped my head in shame, sinking into my back row seat, wishing I hadn't heard that.

Hello, I am new. Love the idea of this community. I have been the grammar queen for quite some time. I, like most of us, hate the constant misuse of "your" and "you're" but lately I've noticed that no one knows the proper usage of "fewer" and "less."

I went to this site as recommended by Comcast and the horror, TWO TYPOS in one sentence, one of them a proper noun.

http://spam.getnetwise.org/tips/popup

"Microsoft" and "operating" are spelled wrong. I sent them an email to let them know. How embarrassing.

My sister can't spell "weird" and she's the same age as me (10th grade, 15 yrs old.) It's really annoying.

And SO many people use the wrong "Your/you're"...it pisses me off.

Grrr...I hate spelling errors.

bad grammar in professional textbooks
There are a few places I've found in my college textbooks where the author begins a sentence with 'and' or 'but'. It drives me nuts. Does this bug anyone else??

This isn't a spelling correction post--
However, to give everyone something to say if they want to... and since I'm not exactly sure how to do a spelling competition on this medium (especially since you all have dictionaries at the ready, i'm sure)...

What's your favorite word?

Another entry in the 'common mistakes' department...
This just in from the leader of a live-action roleplaying game at my school:
Tonight at 6:30 we will be having a workshop on Lore's and Abilities. All players will be responsible to know this information. If you can not be there for the workshop, please talk to me or talk to someone to find out what was said. While information regarding Lore's will be posted in the Web site at some point, their will be things not posted on the web site that people will still be required to know.

Storyteller for Houghton by Night

Though "lore's" and "their" aren't spelled incorrectly, they are used in the wrong sense, so.... not such a glaring error, really, but still a little annoying.

whyyyyyyyyyyyyyy???!?!!
This is a response to a survey on a site I visited today. The survey asked how often people visited the site.

funny thing about this survey, is that it probly wouldnt be here long enuf to get all the ppl who come here less than once a month to take it:P so there would be LOTS of ppl for once per week or more and like.. almost none for less:P

*vomits*

There is some redeeming value to this site, however... in response, someone wrote

Would it be to dificult to, at least, make an attempt at proper orthography?

OK, so that's not that redeeming. Even they spelled something wrong... but they followed that up with

Excuse me. That should read, "Would it be _too_ difficult to..."

so it's all good.
